Cardiac emergencies is one of the most common patient encounters EMS provider face.  Having a fundamental grasp on cardiac anatomy and physiology and the ability to relate this knowledge to a patient is essential for EMS providers.

 

Overview

This class will review cardiac anatomy and physiology and how it relates in the clinical environment. In addition, students will participate in a heart dissection lab.

  • External cardiac anatomy

  • Coronary anatomy

  • Cardiac muscular structure and function

  • Electrophysiology

  • Valves and their function

  • Aortic anatomy

  • Heart dissection lab

Heart Dissection Lab

Each student will participate in a pig heart dissection lab with one heart available per student (no sharing). All dissecting supplies will be available.

Continuing Education Notice: This class is approved for 3 CEUs (Med/Trauma) by the Pennsylvania Department of Health, Bureau of EMS.
